The third Annual General Meeting of the World Confederation of Warriers (WCW) was held on 6th October 2013, at Nair Samajam Hall, Station Road, Dadar (East), Mumbai – 400 014. The meeting was presided over by WCW President Mr. T.V. Ramachandran.
The meeting began at 10.30 am with lighting of lamp by the President & other senior office bearers / senior members. After a devotional prayer by Mr. Ravi Warrier, obituary references were made of WCW members who had expired during the year 2012-13, & a two minute silence was observed by all as homage to the departed souls. Thereafter, General Secretary Mr. Suresh Warrier welcomed the members & invitees who had come to attend the meeting & briefly explained the main agenda that was proposed for the meeting.
The President, in his presidential address, first introduced to the gathering all the officials / representatives of WCW who had come from outstation centres like Delhi, Vadodara, Coimbatore, Thrissur, etc. He then briefly gave the gathering a short background of the concept under which WCW was founded & the major plans & programmes it has evolved & to be accomplished within the next few years, including the plan for initiating a major charitable & other social assistances movement with a target to make available around Rs. 1.00 crore per year to deserving poor persons on a perpetual basis. He also briefed on WCW’s plan to set up few establishments in Mumbai & Kerala; initially, to construct a building in Mumbai / nearby areas for a Community Hall with additional facilities for WCW & Varier Samajam, Mumbai offices, guest room facilities, etc, & in Kerala, one or two bio-gas based crematoriums & a hospital. To finance such projects, the meeting approved WCW’s plans to set up a core fund of Rs. 12.00 crores for charity purposes & Rs. 25.00 crores for major projects. Proposals to enlarge WCW’s membership base & to set up a Western Region Chapter of WCW were also approved for which a seven member Western Regional Committee also was set up. WCW also announced participation with Warrier Foundation to sponsor 100 children as part of Warrier Foundation’s project to provide food, shelter & education to 1000 poor children.
WCW treasurer Mr. Appu Warrier briefed the audience of the income & expenditure of WCW during 2013-14 & its balance sheet as on, 31.03.2013, which was approved by the members present. The previous year’s report also was read & approved.
The Chief Convener of WCW Kerala Chapter, Mr. T.V. Balachandran briefed on the crematorium project at Ollur (near Thrissur) & the progress in implementation of the project, the first phase of which is expected to be completed within the next 6-8 months. This project is estimated to require investment of around Rs. 35 – 38 lacs, excluding land which is being donated by a family. This will be a joint project of WCW & the Thrissur Dist. unit of Varier Samajam, Kerala.
WCW General Secretary Mr. Suresh Warrier briefed the meeting about proposals from another Kerala based social organization-Manjula Arts, Culture & Heritage Society recently set up at Thrissur (Kerala)-to associate with WCW, for preservation of ancient arts forms of India, with support from Ministry of I &B, Govt. of India. The proposal is approved in principle & modalities are being worked out. A proposal from a building project – W Homes –at Haripad in Kerala for some tie-up with WCW also was discussed & the meeting decided to examine the proposal in detail.
Mr. A.S. Madhavan, Managing Trustee of Warrier Foundation & a Managing Committee member of WCW, gave an audiovisual presentation of his Warrier Foundation’s existing child care units (Balamandirams) at Panvel (near Mumbai) & at Thirunavaya & Ernakulam, in Kerala, & the care & protection already being given to about 300 children & his programme to extend the child care programme to cover 1000 children.
Others who spoke at the meeting & gave various opinions & suggestions which were noted, included Mr. Anil Kumar Warrier from Delhi (WCW Jt. Secretary) Mr. T.V. Radhakrishan, from Vadodara, Mr. K.V. Ramachandran (WCW Mg. Committee member) Dr. Sasi Kutty, Dr. Suresh K.G. (I.I.T Mumbai), Mr. P. Kuttan Warrier, (President) & Mr. T.V. Sekharan Kutty (Vice President), Varier Samajam, Mumbai, Mr. T. Vijayan, Mr. Ram Mohan, Mr. N.V. Balakrishanan, Mr. Harish Easwaran, & Mr. Vinod Warrier, (all Life Members, of WCW).
The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Ravindran Warrier, Regional Secretary WCW, (Western Chapter). This was followed by Lunch to all participants, organized at the meeting venue.
